About the GAIC Network: Interdisciplinary and Open Science

GAIC links inquiry of digital innovation,
health and humanities, social sciences and
culture studies. By investigating extraordinary
phenomena in different places, a comparative
and critical perspective with regards to
findings is encouraged. GAIC’s raisons d’être are many. It serves as a platform for intellectual exchange and mutual development, and provides fundamental research training on methodology and development of theory to all its PhD students.

What We Do

Research

GAIC researchers conduct FAIR-based Open Science studies on resilience of communities in the context of globalisation and innovation to help advance perspectives on care for well-being and (mental) health). The group performs interdisciplinary research with a strong emphasis global collaboration of comparative research conducted in different local settings.

PhD Training

GAIC provides its members with weekly methodological training provided by the supervisors, with a focus on ethnography and mixed methods. These weekly trainings are a mandatory part of all PhD students' training and development plans.

Awareness

GAIC actively encourages its members to take part in colloquia and policy-making activities, such as the Leiden Global Impact in Health Symposium and the European Development Days. In addition, GAIC frequently publishes special journal issues, books and nano-publications with contributions from across the network.

Peer Groups

Every week, peer groups organized across thematic interests meet to discuss articles, help each other along in their research and complete assignments. Peer groups offer a sense of community to their members.

GAIC

Network

GAIC takes pride in its ability to form connections and alliances. It serves as a partnership between the Africa University Network (AUN) and European Universities.
